Fez Day, 19 May, avec Flamingos

Flamingos are now the official avian mascot of the ROotF. Because.

Fez Master Terry's State of the Royal Order Proclamation

Happy Fez day, y'all, from Fez Master Terry. A martini, his best fez, and a tailor-made, Hoi-An green velvet smoking jacket are all that Terry needs to convene an official meeting of the Royal Order of the Fez, guest cat Lucky in the role of secretary. Should you wish to join our Royal Order, all you need to start is a fez and a proclamation on this page. We have no rights or privileges, but we will join you every Thursday in donning the fez.

Once again, we awaken...

It's been nearly two years since we've visited our digital domain, but the Order of the Fez has been busy. Join us my friend. All you need is a fez and a willingness to wear that fez at least one hour every Thursday, preferably in public. We stand for nothing, proudly, and will continue our indifference to the world as long as there are any of us left to hoist a glass and don the fez on Thursday. Don't wait for an invitation: become one of us, one of us, one of us...

A glass of Spanish red, my second best fez, and the best smoking jacket one can buy in Hoi An, which is now a place of pilgrimage for the order. Life is good.

Fez day, from Turkey, a new day dawns

The hushed initiation rites echo across our timeline, as fragrant incense gives way to musty grapes, fear to smiles, and again, like the phoenix, a fez rises from the ashes, and a new one enters our midst. "Are you the one they call Ribble," the priest asks, voice trembling....

Fez Day Mail Surprise

Funny, a fez, or fezzes, have haunted me lately, like dreams of earthquakes or the mysterious feel of invisible rain on parched earth. And then this came in the mail.

We await, to tap others upon the shoulder, and carry on the unbroken chain. Tie up your camels and pour the mint tea, for it's Thursday, Fez Day, once again.

The silence of a bright light...Fez Day is here, again

Untitled
Oh to be sitting in the Riad, eating muscat grapes and cooling in the pool, while the sounds of the call to prayer perfume the air. Happy Fez day, y'all.

Sleep comes, like a drug...

And sleep slips away slowly, as an ancient few shake off the dust of the mummy's gauze. We, the quiet ones, welcome a new member, whose fez selected him on the mystical streets of the Jemma el Fna, as he ignored the muezzin's call to prayer echoing off the ancient Koutubia mosque. Welcome to the Fez, Fez Terry, and remember, we have no affiliation, no secret handshake, no belief system, only the shared fez and the secret and somber powers it imparts. And if anyone else wishes to join (but can't make the trip to Morocco), a fez from Amazon, IF IT CHOOSES YOU, will do. Our only requirement is that you don the fez for an hour on Thursday, and wear it in public, at least once a month.

Happy Fez Day!

Don't let the smiling faces fool you, friend. A dangerous group met today. Whenever four fez find themselves in one place on a Thursday, mischief and chaos follow. Tip of the fez to Fez Bob, who is back from his undercover reconnaissance trip to Key West.

Fez Day

It's a windy Fez Day on the Central Coast, but a flying tassel never hurt anyone! Beware the hypnotic powers that come with the fez, my friends. Beware!

03 February 2011

If you haven't already seen it, check out An Idiot Abroad. Originally aired in Britain, this Ricky Gervais produced travelogue sends a clueless schmuck around the world. As they say, hilarity ensues. It's airing now on the Science Channel. He does often rock a fez, though, so there is hope for him.

Happy Fez Day

A link to this odd artifact showed up in my email folder this morning. Obviously, given the masking software and fictitious return address this must be a communique from a fellow fez. Not sure of the meaning, but oh my God, I'm wearing my fez right now. Cheers, y'all.

Happy Fez Day

Fez Terry sends the following picture from parts eastward. He reports that it was claimed that this dancing fez was part of a "Shriner" celebration. We know better. We are aligned with nobody. We have no agenda. And we dance, dance, dance the happy Fez dance.

Happy Fez Day, Y'all

It's amazing the looks I get from students when I sit in my office and play the accordion while wearing my fez.

Much activity occurs

Too busy with clandestine fez business to make a full report this week, so I leave this coded image for those who wear the fez:

Fez Bob appears!

Since Fez Bob's strategic withdrawal, he's been a mysterious figure, whispered about by those who fear the fez. Last fez day he briefly appeared from deep in his Cheneyesque bunker:
We hope he soon graces our hallowed fez halls on a future fez day.

20 November 2008

We awake, from slumbers deep...

Thankfully the election is over. We feared having any influence upon the exercise in democracy that just ended, but now we can again prowl hallways without fear. If you are newly fezzed, please make sure to read the first blog for crucial information. Below is archival footage.

Thursday, May 22 or Quartidi de Tréfle (FRC)

Welcome my friend. If you are here for the first time, you should go to the right side of the page, half way down, and find the Frequently Asked Questions link under "Blog Archive".
This was a busy week for TROOTF. Fez DK surprised us all by constructing his own fez, which he has approval to wear until the official fez arrives. Because we have no official rules, though, he may continue to wear either fez at his discretion.
Our numbers, my friends, are swelling. Let me reiterate this important fact: we have no affiliations, nor do we claim to have any philosophical adherences. Individual members have their own belief systems. We are united only by the fez. We have no causes other than confusion.

As a member, you have the right, or rather, the duty, to tap others for membership at your discretion. If a friend shows interest, tap that friend and invite him or her to join.

This week's spring verse is from Wordsworth:

Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind...

This week we celebrate spring and encourage all TROOTF members to do the same by participating in at least one of the following acts while wearing your fez: step foot in a body of natural water, throw a baseball, sip tea at any coffee shop (preferably with a madeleine), or take a moonlit walk.

Remember, send your pictures. I will set up a Flikr photo account; please let me know if you need access. You should also be leaving comments on the blog, which will require that you set up a free account. We will see you next Thursday.
